The Young Members & Families group includes active singles and parents in their 20s, and 30s and 40s who like to have fun outdoors… but anyone who is young at heart is welcome at all of our activities! We are interested in conservation, education, and of course, recreation.
What We Do
We host a wide range of activities based on input from our members with the ultimate goal of growing our local outdoor community. We are always interested in new ideas, and fully support first-time event leaders.
Our events cater broadly to all ability levels, from first-timer to advanced. You don’t need to be an ADK member to attend events — all are welcome. Join us at one of our upcoming events, and be prepared to have fun, meet new people, and share ideas for future activities.
Outdoor Activities, Near & Far
Throughout the year we meet for local day and evening events as well as overnight and weekend trips as well, covering just about any and every outdoor activity you can think of — day hiking, backpacking, camping, paddling, biking, skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, and ice skating to name just a few. Check the calendar below for upcoming events!
Social Gatherings
Whether you prefer to make a social introduction to the group or just enjoy meeting up with friends from the chapter, sometimes it’s nice to get out and leave the gear at home. Besides our monthly happy hour (3rd Wednesday of each month), we’ll sometimes catch a movie together, or conclude a local event with an optional visit to a nearby pub.
Special Events
The club hosts two long-standing annual events developed by our Young Members group, of which we are especially proud. With good reason, they have become highlights of the club’s calendar:
- Johns Brook Jamboree, a weekend-long summer wilderness experience
- High Peaks Winter Weekend, to share the wintertime joys of the Adirondacks
We hope to add more annual events as Young Member interest and involvement grows, including a large regional group camp-out and a canoe trip to the Adirondacks.
Young Families
At ADK, we understand the vital importance of exposing children to the outdoors at an early age. We are increasingly adding family-friendly and kid-oriented events to our calendar, such as bird watching, scavenger hunts, and nature walks.
As many parents know, when dealing with active children there is strength and support in numbers. We are always interested in helping active parents get outside more with their kids and other families. If you would like to join us, partner with us, or learn more, please reach out to us at ym@adk-gvc.org!
