ADK’s first mission principle is Conservation. We have a long history of advocating for wilderness and protecting the natural environment.

ADK takes action on conservation in a number of ways at the Club level, and the Genesee Valley Chapter is active in local, state and national issues. Our Conservation Committee is a dedicated group of people passionate about the environment. Want to get involved? Contact conservation@adk-gvc.org or click here to join our Conservation email list.

Annual Events of the Conservation Committee

Monroe County Winterfest
Our Conservation Committee sets up at the annual Monroe County Winterfest in Mendon Ponds Park. They offer folks a chance to try out snowshoeing, and they acquaint folks with our mission of conservation and recreation. Check the Events Calendar below for this mid-January event.

National Trails Day
National Trails Day, sponsored by the American Hiking Society, is the only nationally-coordinated event designed to unite all muscle-powered trail activities with the goal of connecting more people to trails. Typically held on the first Saturday in June, this event resonates strongly with our mission of conservation and recreation. Check the Events Calendar below for details.

Monroe County Pick-Up-the-Parks Day
Typically held on the last Sunday in April, Monroe County’s Pick-Up-the-Parks Day provides another opportunity for us to give back to the community. Check the Events Calendar below for details of the activity we’re planning for this day.

Finger Lakes Trail Maintenance
Help us to keep our section of the popular FLT near Hornell, NY, enjoyable! Check the Events Calendar below for this three-times-a-year activity, or contact FLT-steward@adk-gvc.org for details.
